I don't self-diagnose, but my mind is reeling with countless serialized post ideas, and every day I have to fight the demons in my head urging me to launch them all at once.
This post— Dress code dispatch— is one of those series.
Dress Code Dispatch is your Horde Haus exclusive pass to clone/emulate/dupe a recent outfit of mine. My mash-up closet of new and thrifted gems spans decades, turning the search for similar pieces into a bit of a scavenger hunt. Fret not, though—I'm doing the linkable groundwork for you. I break down each look into different price tiers. Click to shop and go all out or mix and match to suit your taste. Expect some honorable mentions in the mix. And, of course, you'll find direct links to the actual pieces worn in the original newsletter. Let me know which look you're itching to see dissected in the next dispatch!
Last week I featured a couple of outfits but I’m focusing this dispatch on the leading look. My personal bid to make mini-skirts hot for the winter, sorry I won’t be elaborating or going pants-less folks.
At a guestimation, my original look floats somewhere around the $2500+ mark, give or take, considering the pieces’ prices at the time of retail.
The base item of black tights is easy and the same for all tiers, so I’m including it here.
I also love purses so much, and think they’re totally worth saving for instead of buying a bunch of cheap ones (unless it’s secondhand) so I’d pair all looks with this stunning crossbody hobo bag from Saint Laurent (which also comes in a croc-embossed leather too).
As for everything else…
✼ Here’s my $1000 take on pulling this look together:
࿏Starting the list off strong— this MSGM trench at a steal of a price. Nothing more to say; we love a good wool coat. Currently on sale at TRR. | $205
࿏I went with this turtleneck from Wardrobe.NYC which is on sale for just under $250 and looks like a very good option. I like that it has a little length to it and will come down far past the waist of anything mid-rise. | $240
࿏I’m really really in love with this Holzweiler skirt, the kind of love where you take ‘em home to meet your parents. BRB, still fighting those wallet-clutching demons. | $109
࿏Any pair of the NOMASEI tri-tone loafers would work here in my opinion. I really enjoyed the collaboration they did some time ago with sisters, doubl3xposure, and accidentalinfluencer. If you can find those secondhand, that’s my pick. Otherwise, this current colorway works too. | $470
✼ My $500 take:
࿏If you’re looking for a shape similar to mine, then this Fleurette one on TRR is gorgeous. I’m obsessed, point blank. If I didn’t already own mine, I would snap this one up right away. | $111
࿏Turtlenecks that button up seem to be a niche category with slim pickings, so the next best thing was finding a piece with an interesting neck in general, and this reformation Regenerative Merino Fitted Turtleneck fits the bill for me. | $149
࿏This micro skirt is more of a tobacco brown than a grey, but the interesting detailing has my heart and brown was the other color featured in the original outfit so I think it works for this set. | $86
࿏These Cole Hanns loafers are men’s shoes but I think they have a beautiful color story and would pair nicely with the mini and gold hardware. Don’t forget to check your size. | $135
✼ My $100-$200 take (this tier will often feature some good secondhand finds or items on sale so don’t miss out on scooping these right away):
࿏For me, vintage is the way to go when looking for coats. Even better if you find it at your local shop! You’d be hard-pressed to find a quality wool coat that has less than 30% synthetic materials for under $200. One of my favorite shops just added this 100% wool structured coat, and I can’t get enough. | $82
࿏This UNIQLO Merino sweater perfectly emulated the slouchy fit that my top had. The black is close to selling out, but I’m sure they’ll restock sooner rather than later. The grey is a great contender too. | $29.90
࿏If you own any Djerf Ave piece then you KNOW this blazer/trouser/Must Have mini skirt material is magic. Super versatile, ultra-forgiving, movable, cute, and in so many sizes. We stan her. | $89
࿏Rounding out dispatch numero uno is a classic pair of loafers from Bandolino Fillus, with a duo-tone flair and tassels for character. | $55
Whewwwww. That was a long one. Thanks a lot if you made it all the way down here. I hope breaking down my look in this way made it enjoyable, but also more accessible to all my online browsing besties. I’ve been sickly all week, so writing this has brought me some peace between the coughs.
If there's a specific look you'd like to see in the next dispatch or if you have ideas on how to structure these dispatches, drop a note below. Your input is always welcome!
Until next time, happy dressing xx
I love this series! I am here for it.
