Q’s from the Group Chat: Upgrading Sweats
(interlude) 'Cause I get by with a little help from my friends
For the very first (!) installment of Q’s from the Group Chat, I bring a request from my dear friend, wellness wielder, and bonafide gym rat, Emily Deyn.
Now Emily is by no means a stranger to the world of fashion. It’s been entangled throughout much of her life, —and we actually met and (trauma) bonded while working together at a modeling agency right here in NYC.
Following an Instagram post of a letter I sent out back in January, Em slid into my DMs with a harmless non-request and I absolutely ran with it.
I think one of the beauties of life is knowing that I don’t have all the answers, and I’m embracing tag-teaming ideas this year, so I’m tapping my friend Hailey for this one. Hailey is great, stylish, smart, a fellow writer and her humor is right up my alley. You’ll meet Hailey soon enough because 8 times out of 10 we are Mary Kate & Ashley-ing, which is to say, wearing eerily coordinated outfits with no plans to. I trust Hailey with my wallet and my life (mostly).
She had me at ski pants— an ode to a space I’ve never been to due to my slight aversion towards winter sports, still— down the snowy, slippery slope I go:
These MadHappy x Columbia collaborative puffer pants… I’m kinda obsessed. Especially with this slate/navy color (they’re also available in a light tan shade).
Contrary to half the comments on this item, I lovee these reverse weave sweats from Champion. Not only are they incredibly soft on the inside, and sturdy on the outside, but they’re sooo warm. I think the secret is to go oversized with these. My boyfriend was gifted a pair in an XL, which neither of us wear, but somehow it ended up being perfect. I kinda love rolling the waistband of a sweatpants and my form getting lost in the material. The cinched ankle helps bring the look back, which I typically will pair with chunky ribbed socks and a pair of loafers to give me back some of the formality I lost up top. Grey or black in these are my pick.
Now theseeeee Everlane lounge pants seem dreamy (!!) so dreamy I may or may not have already ordered myself a pair. And they’re on sale, with a steep discount so there’s really no excuse.
What’s the deal with this KOTN brand… they always come up when I’m looking for a piece, any kind of piece, and they feel about as none descript as a Blank Street Cafe. Has anyone got a piece from them? OR can speak to whether these sweats are any good…?
Here is how I’d style some sweats, and where I’d be spotted in them (it’s like a pick-your-own adventure):
Well there it is; I took a stab at the age-old question mark that follows ‘sweatpants after age 20’ around.
I know someone much more versed in the discourse of sweats has been waiting patiently for this moment to drop some serious knowledge (and discount codes), and to them I say, my comments are always open.
Happy dressing. Until the next xx
