Sunday Scroll is a weekly download of whatever caught my eye—no agenda, just a curated mix of thoughts, links, and musings from the past week. Light, digestible, and perfect for the digital hoarder in all of us.
Happy Mother’s Day to all that mother. Whoever you may be!
Daily Headlines That Stuck →
(Here’s what you might have missed this week.)
Upcoming Substack Reads → I’m willfully behind on reads this month, but I’ll be catching up, starting with some of these
What I Couldn’t Stop Thinking About → I spent a lot of time looking into (watching TikTok’s) about brood parasitic birds, and their mafioso mentalities. How the female brown-headed cowbird will lay her egg in the nest of another bird and keep tabs to ensure her offspring hatches and is raised by the unsuspecting host. And if the other bird species should clock that it’s not one of their eggs, and pushes it out of the nest, the cowbird returns with a vengeance, dismantling the home stick by stick, or destroying the eggs of the actual nesting bird. It’s unclear if with time these birds have grown to turn a blind eye to the obviously foreign bird/egg for fear of retaliation. It’s probably also the reason it’s illegal for humans to intervene if they spot a parasitic egg in the wild. Anyway, there’s probably a metaphor in there around parasites, power dynamics, human intervention and maybe even the foster care system, but I’ve yet to sit down and distill that.
Track Of The Week → I’m really into this song and music video, and with it the lore and drama behind this trio turned duo. No one does a great video anymore.
Artists On My Mind → The graduating class of fashion design students at FIT. I was at their Future of Fashion runway show, and I liked nearly every piece that came down the catwalk. Looks that were selected by the likes of Vanessa Friedman (of the NYT), Joe Ando-Hirsch, Kevin Bass (of CFDA) and more. Those kids did their big one. The future of fashion is bright!!!!
Open tabs (129) →
Maj Kiosk; a great vintage collector with the best pieces and even better styling. I love to browse and will occasionally buy. It’s password locked each week, so you’ll have to sign up for emails!
Joseph Pilates’ grandchildren? We were looking to see if the father of Pilates had any grandchildren, who would be modern day Pilates princesses themselves. Alas, he doesn’t have any kids, just a niece that he adopted (I think, don’t quote me on it.)
Cowboy Carter tickets to Met Life in 2 weeks. Maybe I’ll take my mum.
More vigorous research on the Tracy Anderson Method, can you tell I’m scared? Well, I have exactly 24 hours to get over it, because we’ve signed up for tomorrow’s class and can’t back out now. Prayers are accepted.
Something I Bought, Something I Didn’t →
Indulgence → Nora introduced me to Thalo Denim and the minds behind it and I was instantly obsessed, which surprised me since I’ve been living a low-rise life as of late. I got myself the indigo wash of their signature. They make the ass look incredible.
Self-Restraint → This Marge Sherwood bag that looks like the Miu Miu Boston bag. It’s a dead ringer in looks, but the quality and prices at the pop-up don’t quite match. I’ll wait for a trip to South Korea, thanks.
Something That Made Me Laugh → I’ve watched this video so many times because she is so unserious but also so powerful because how did she just choke this cop at the club and live to post the video. Substack won’t let me drop here so you’ll have to watch there (on IG)!
Looks I Loved → The Met Gala was this past Monday, so of course I’m sharing some looks I loved. This is by no means an exhaustive grouping, but it’s some of my favorites.
Parting Thoughts…
I’ve been dubbed the keeper of Old English in the literary (smut) group chat, which I find kind of hilarious because I’m literally just typing my stream of consciousness at any given time, which I guess means I’m subconsciously existing in a mideval era novel.
Currently harboring some resentment for SZA and that stupid members only club, SAA, that I was looking into the other week. Hailey and Brandon manifested us some tickets to SZA’s afterparty with Kaytranada, and because of the venues lack of order, we made it to the door, and then were told they were at capacity. Yes, that was Friday night. Yes, I’m still bitter. But you know what they say, rejection is just redirection. Redirected to my bed, anyway.
My mum recently got my brother this craigslist kitten. We were told it was four weeks old, but turns out Molly (her name now) was only two. He’s had a particularly rough year, but the kitten has already started to work her magic. I receive a new video of her scaling someone’s leg daily. She’s particularly fond of my mum. I guess once a mother, always a mother.
Tell your mum you love her!
